Fall 2022 Community Letter |
Hello Simbians! For most people, most of the time, our daily lives are pretty much what we assume they will be. Of course, weather, relationships, politics, economic opportunities and every other aspect our lives change over time. But, on a daily basis, most of us usually know what to expect tomorrow. But, how do we deal with huge, sudden changes that sweep across entire communities, regions, or nations all at once? When disaster strikes, it’s normal for community members and even strangers to come together and help each other, but coordination during emergencies is necessarily ad hoc and difficult. There is no perfect answer that applies equally to everyone everywhere, but Simbi points the way towards resilience in at least one aspect: community strength is built by coordination of needs and resource availability, without the need for scarce state money to mediate the potential abundance generated by such coordination. Over the last few months, the number of active crises worldwide continues to grow, from Hurricane Ian tearing through Florida and now other southeastern US states, to the ongoing Russian war in Ukraine. If you know anyone affected by a recent or current disaster, or would like to offer help to anyone involved, please use simbi.com/relief. Resilience is having the ability to find ways to provide for and meet our needs in multiple potential ways, and Simbi is here to help everyone realize what other options exist when we reconnect with our humanity. Thank you for joining us in this difficult but incredibly necessary journey! |
